Why I want to startup

Back in 2019’s end, I was in deep existential crisis and in the middle of it, Amitu (a mentor), unsolicitedly said - “just do a startup!”. Shanks had inspired Luffy. And it pushed me onto a train which keeps speeding up!

As this adventurous journey grew into me, I have realised more and more on why I love this journey.

  • Gameability - Back in 2020, I saw a video by Paul Grahm that struck a chord with me in which he said “Startups are not gameable” They are unlike college exams, cracking interviews etc which are hackable. Instead of feeling fear, I felt excitement, and I knew I have crackhead tendencies.
  • Orophilia - Orophile is a person who loves climbing mountains. After I left my cushioned job back in 2022, I went through a painful journey full of confusion, despair and loneliness. When I climbed out of it, I had learned a lot in this period, which would otherwise, take a decade or more to learn. But, my love is not so much to the feeling of learning, as much, it is to the feeling of high I get after climbing up the mountain, made up of my fears and doubts. I like challenges that almost break me. I like playing survival games. I like climbing.
  • Intensity - When I read the book “Moonwalking with Einstein” - which actually talks about memory - I came up with the formula of a quality life as

QOL = Sum of magnitude of M(j) Where Ms are the memorable moments one had in his life and it’s magnitude can be considered as intensity. And this intensity really depends on how much we want to remember that moment. I realised, I want my life to be memorable and it can only happen if I live an intense life. “Living more life per moment”.

  • Story - Recently, I have come to realise that I am living an epic life and no one knows about it, sometimes even I forget (hence this blog post). Popularity really doesn’t add much to a good story. My expectation from my story is to throw me in awe when I read it back 30 years later. This depends on 3 things - how intensely I am living my life, how I am tying those moments into stories and that I am actually writing them down somewhere (hence this blog.) I want to make an epic story out of an ordinary man’s life. Startup is my genre.
  • Travelling - I like travelling, although, I don’t much “travel” for leisure. By travel, i mean, travelling as a way to expose me to new aspects of life and to break my mental stiffness. That way, startup is my means to travel in life. I learn more and more things about the world, the people and myself through it.

Below will be some drawings of what I am observing as I am travelling through life in my vehicle.
